The Bradwell Institute boys’ track team was second overall and the girls’ team was third at last weekend’s Statesboro Invitational.
Tiger Ziere Diggs brought home the overall-performance award after finishing first in the 110- and 300-meter hurdles and placing second in the high jump (5 feet, 10 inches). Tiger Sterling Burn placed first in the discus (129-8) and the shot put (43-6). Stephon Green placed second in the shot put (41-10). Desman Martin placed second in the triple jump (43-8).
In the girls’ division, Lady Tiger Alliyah Howard placed second in the 1600 run (6 minutes, 1.01 seconds). Katare Burks finished second in the 400 run (1:01) and Michaela Calvin was third (1:02.07). Kalia Burks placed second for the Lady Tigers in the discus (77-.06) and Dayonna Wynn placed second in the high jump (4-10). Tierra Mathis finished third in the triple jump (33-0).
Bradwell coach DeAndre Davis said nine track teams — including top track schools like Mays High, Lakeside and Miller Grove — were at the event. He said having his teams place second and third allowed him to evaluate where the team stands. He said the Tiger coaching staff was pleased with the teams’ performances.
This weekend, Bradwell will be in Kingsland for the Dana Shivalier Invitational.
