Brothers Jarvis T. and Derek Braxton, former Bradwell institute track and field competitors, earned several medals recently at the 2013 Texas Police and Fire Games in Houston, Texas.
Jarvis Braxton, a 2002 BI graduate, is an investigator for the specialized task force of the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office. His older brother Derek, a 1997 BI grad, represented the Tallahassee Police Department, where he serves as an Investigator.
In the Houston event, which was held June 12-14, the brothers won gold medals in the 4x100-meter relay. Jarvis Braxton also earned gold in the 400 run, silver in the 800 run, long jump and 200 dash, and bronze in the high jump.
Derek Braxton earned a gold medal in the 100 dash, silver in the 200  dash and gold medals in the long jump and 4x400  relay.
Jarvis Braxton said the duo was fortunate and stayed relatively healthy throughout the meet. He added that their success in Houston qualified them to compete in the 2013 USA Police and Fire Games National Championship held June 19-22 in San Diego, Calif.
The duo again paired up to win silver medals in the 4x100 relay. Derek earned gold medals in the 100 dash and triple jump. Jarvis also took home silver in the 400 run and bronze in the long jump.
The brothers earned the right to compete in the upcoming the 2013 World Police and Fire Games on Aug. 1-10 in Belfast, Northern Ireland. However, Jarvis Braxton said they both struggled to stay healthy at the California meet and the injuries, along with a few setbacks, will keep them from making the trip overseas.
He said the duo hopes to be healthy in time for the 2013 Nevada Police and Fire Games in late August in Las Vegas.
“If we are able to recover from our hamstring injuries, we will represent Clayton County Sheriff Office and Tallahassee Police Department proudly once again,” Jarvis Braxton said.
