The Bryan County News is pleased to formally announce the appointment of Lori Wynn as its new editor.
Wynn joined the News in April of this year as a staff reporter and officially assumes the editor’s post Monday.
Since joining the newspaper, Wynn has demonstrated her skills not only as a reporter, but in all areas of journalism, assisting in copy editing, page design and layout and more.
“Lori brings a wealth of community journalism experience to the Bryan County News and as editor will help us do an even better job of delivering important news and information to our readers,” News publisher Mark Griffin said. “She understands the important role a local newspaper and website play in communities like Bryan County, and we look forward to the contribution she will bring to our news staff.”
Wynn most recently hails from North Carolina but earned her Bachelor of Arts in journalism from the University of Memphis in Memphis, Tenn. Her career in journalism includes several positions at newspapers of various sizes in Tennessee and North Carolina.
“I’m excited about my new position here at the Bryan County News, and I’m eager to get working on ideas for improving the paper’s content and look,” Wynn said. “I am thoroughly enjoying working with the communities of Bryan County, and I look forward to meeting our readers’ needs as the paper and its website evolve.
“We’ve got a lot of plans in the works, and I believe we’re headed in the right direction for strengthening the News and growing our readership.”
While the editor here is changing, “in with the new” doesn’t mean “out with the old.” Former editor Jeff Whitten has been with the News since October 2006 and will continue with the paper now as a senior writer.
“We have needed a more experienced and knowledgeable news writer to help us better report on important issues facing our community and Jeff is that kind of news reporter,” Griffin said. “As a senior writer he’ll help us understand and communicate more important issues and their effect on Bryan County citizens.
“He has done an outstanding job in all the newspaper markets he has covered, and we look forward to having him focus on those important stories in Bryan County. He will also continue to play an important role in developing our editorial page each week.”
