Hinesville native Katrina M. Sage, 24, recently was named Georgia Southern University’s 2009-10 public relations student of the year and designer of the year.
Faculty and staff members nominate students for the honor based on their work in the classroom and in the field or in a portfolio submitted for approval. Finalists were interviewed by academic advisory board members who selected the winner.
In spring 2010, Sage was selected by the board after she submitted a portfolio containing work samples produced for area clients and Georgia Southern’s Eagles baseball program. The student also was lauded for her method of profiling target audiences.
Sage entered the industry in summer 2007 as an intern with South Magazine. She later worked as a feature writer and fashion director for the magazine before she returned to Georgia Southern to continue her studies.
In spring 2008, the Savannah College of Art and Design selected Sage to speak on a panel, “How to reach your target market,” alongside Andrew Meyer, producer of the “Breakfast Club.”
Since graduating in May, Sage began working in the area, focusing on small business public relations and brand management. She said her goals include helping local small businesses manage their brands and public images and launching her own stationery line.
