Arconic, a forged metal producer in the Liberty County Development Authority’s Tradeport East business park, needs work space and parking space as it continues to grow.
The LCDA took advantage of one of its recent tax increase hearings to review and agree to a request from Arconic for permission to temporary locate portable office buildings to house staff. The temporary buildings will house sales staff until permanent office space can be found.
Arconic reports it has 293 employees. The company is reportedly looking at adjoining space in Tradeport East for possible expansion.
The local forged metal operation started out as Firth Rixson Forgings, LLC. The United Kingdom-based provider of forged metal products to the aerospace industry, constructed a 200,000 square foot facility in 2010. In 2011, the company announced a 20-percent facility expansion with a projected 304 total employees when in full production. In November 2014, the New York-headquartered Alcoa acquired Firth Rixson, and the Midway location joined Alcoa’s Engineered Products and Solutions business, operating as Alcoa Forgings and Extrusions. The current corporate name is Arconic Forgings and Extrusions.
