Municipal Association’s Essay Contest invites students to be mayors
Georgia Municipal Association (GMA) is once again asking Georgia's sixth grade students what they would do if they were mayors.
The “If I Were Mayor, I Would,” essay contest gives students the opportunity to share their visions of what their community would be like under their guidance.
The essay contest is open to all Georgia 6th graders including private school students and home schoolers. The deadline for submitting an essay is March 2.
Twelve winners will be chosen statewide, with one overall winner selected from that group. Each winner receives a $250 savings bond and other prizes.
Essays must be no longer than 250 words and begin with the phrase, “If I were mayor, I would ....”
Essays will be judged by a panel of city officials, and will be judged on their creativity, proper use of grammar, sincerity of thought and clarity.
Contest rules and entry forms are on the GMA web site at www.gmanet.com
