For the past week, I participated in a third-level cancer prevention research project for the American Cancer Society. I had to wear a belt monitor, complete a survey, and write in a daily log. When I support different causes, like the ACS, I get a warm and happy feeling. Well, this weekend, you too can get that warm and happy feeling by supporting Keep Liberty Beautiful and the Rotary Club Of Hinesville.
We need 1,200 pairs of shoes collected during our Shoe Drive-Thru on September 18, 2021. The collected shoes will go to micro-businesses in developing countries. The businesses will fix and sell the shoes to make a living. Also, for some people, their feet are the only mode of transportation they have. So, having some type of footwear is very important for getting back and forth to work and school. When we reach 2,500 pairs of shoes, a donation will be given to the Liberty County Relay For Life. We are also helping the environment by keeping the shoes out of the landfill.
The collection sites for the Shoe Drive-Thru are at our quarterly Recycle It! Fairs and Shred Day events! So, this Saturday, September 18, 2021, you have a chance to recycle the following items:
- Electronics and electronic accessories
- CFL's and fluorescent light bulbs
- Used motor oil and antifreeze
- Car batteries.
- Household batteries
- Printer ink and toner cartridges
- Telephone books, large sale catalogs, and books
- Household goods and clothes and shoes (gently used)
- Old prescription medications and over the counter medications
The Shred Day event will only be at the Walthourville City Hall location. Items that you might want to shred to protect yourself from identity theft include:
Old financial records, payroll, and employment information
Check stubs, statements, and canceled checks
Healthcare and medical records
Personal records
You may also have a lot of out-of-date paperwork that you just want to clean out because it takes up needed space. Please remember to remove items from notebooks and binders if you need information shredded.
Our two Recycle It! Fair sites on Saturday, September 18, 2021, are open from 9:00am until 1:00pm. These locations are:
Liberty County Community Complex

Walthourville City Hall, The Shred Truck will be at this site only!
