Spreading holiday cheer this season is one of the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office’s goodwill missions.

The LCSO will be giving out more than 1,000 toys, and clothing to kids and families in need in their Give a Gift for Christmas Drive. Sheriff’s deputies, teachers, and churches came together to identify families in need this Christmas in order to provide them necessary items.

On top of giving away holiday gifts, the LCSO will also be distributing 30 meals to families in need.

“There are a lot of people who are in circumstances out of their control and the sheriff wants to help,” LCSO secretary Harriman Hershey said.

Sheriff Steve Sikes said Hershey has been a driving force in making the Give a Gift for Christmas happen for kids and families.

“She has a very big heart and the Lord has used her in a mighty way,” Sikes said. “This year we have more families, more schools, and more people involved to help the community and I’ve had deputies come in and give $100 to help this cause.”
