3rd ID soldier killed in crash in Iraq

FORT STEWART - The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Pvt. Francisco J. Guardado-Ramirez, 21, of Sunland Park, N.M.., died June 2 in Baghdad, Iraq, of injuries sustained from a non-combat related incident when the MRAP he was in struck an overpass. An investigation is underway. He was assigned to 1-41 Field Artillery, 1st Heavy Brigade Combat Team, 3rd ID.

A cannon crewmember, Guardado-Ramirez joined the Army in June 2008 and arrived at Fort Stewart in November 2008. This was his first deployment.
