DoD identifies 3rd ID casualty

The Department of Defense announced Monday the death of a 3rd Infantry Division soldier who was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

 Sgt. 1st Class Forrest W. Robertson, 35, of Westmoreland, Kan., died Nov. 3, in Pul-E-Alam, Afghanistan, of wounds sustained when enemy forces attacked his unit with small arms fire.

 Robertson was assigned to the 6th Squadron, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 3rd ID. A cavalry scout platoon sergeant; he joined the Army in July 1996 and arrived at the unit in December 2012. This was his fifth deployment. His awards include the Bronze Star Medal with Valor device.
