A narcotics roundup in Midway led to a high-speed chase Thursday.
Midway Police Officer Mark Rich, who led the chase, said a narcotics unit was making arrests in the 1300 block of East Oglethorpe Highway when he noticed a 2008 Ford Taurus pull into the area.
Rich noticed the vehicle back up and attempt to leave quickly, so he stopped the Ford at the intersection of Martin Road and East Oglethorpe Highway. As he ran the driver’s information, the man started his vehicle and took off, leaving his license behind and Rich in pursuit.
The driver turned south onto Highway 17, ran a red light at East Oglethorpe and passed two trucks on a curve.
The suspect turned right onto Bacontown Road, where Rich and LCSO Deputy Wayman Chapman barricaded him. The suspect struck and damaged Rich’s vehicle then drove into an abandoned mobile home. He jumped from the vehicle and ran into the woods. K-9 units were called, but at press time, the suspect had not been caught.
