Two arrested in vehicle stolen in Ludowici

Effingham County Sheriff’s deputies arrested two auto theft suspects and recovered a stolen vehicle early tuesday in South Effingham County after a traffic stop.
According to a news release issued by Effingham County Sheriff Jimmy McDuffie, at approximately 1 a.m., a deputy observed a suspicious black Ford Explorer backed in a driveway at a residence off of Blue Jay Road.
As the deputy approached the vehicle, it took off at a high rate of speed down Sand hill Road in excess of 90 mph. After a short chase, deputies stopped the vehicle, which was reported stolen out of Ludowici. No more information about the circumstances around the theft of the vehicle was available Tuesday.
The driver, Jason Reeve, 30, of Ellabell was arrested and charged with theft by receiving stolen property, possession of marijuana, driving under the influence, and open container while operating a motor vehicle.
The passenger, David Gottschalk, 19, of Savannah was arrested and charged with theft by receiving a stolen vehicle.
Both suspects remain in the Effingham County Jail. Deputies are currently looking into whether the individuals are connected to any burglaries in the area.
