A Hinesville woman reported that a first date went strangely awry when the man departed abruptly after taking three pairs of her shoes and a hat.

Here’s what happened, according to the Hinesville Police Department report:

An officer was sent around 2 a.m. Nov. 28 to a Freedom Court residence regarding a theft.

There, the officer talked to the woman, who said she met a man on a dating website called Plenty of Fish. They apparently hit it off.

“She had him come over to her house to meet him,” the officer reported the victim said. “He told her he was in the military and she does not know where (the man) lives. She said he had to use the restroom so he went down stairs and did so. After coming back upstairs a while he went back down to use the restroom again.”

Only this tine the man didn’t come back upstairs after his trip to the restroom, according to the report.

“(The woman) said she heard a loud commotion and when she came down stairs her front door was left open and she noticed she was missing 3 pairs of shoes and a hat,” the incident report said.

The reporting officer tried to call the man using a number supplied by the victim.

His call went to voice mail. The officer gave the woman a case number and explained warrant procedures.
