Benoit’s second in discus paces Liberty at state

The Liberty County boys placed 10th and the Liberty County girls took 19th at the Class AAA state track meet, held at Albany’s Hugh Mills Stadium.

Devereaux Benoit had the best finish, taking second in the discus at 152 feet, 3 inches.

The 4x200 relay team of Markel Aside, Keyshawn Hollis, Jamar Joseph and James Summersett took third with a time of 1:28.31. Isaac Vanduynhoven was fourth in the pole vault at 13 feet, 6 inches The 4x100 meter relay team of Joseph, Summersett, Kyan Parker and Hollis took fifth at 42.68 seconds.

Summersett took eighth in the 200-meter dash at 22.99 seconds.

Jaidyn Hayes had the top finish for the Liberty girls with her sixth-place n the discus at 113-4.

Kirah Smiley was seventh in the shot put at 36 feet, 5 inches and Riniya Roberts was seventh in the pole vault at 8 feet even for the Lady Panthers.

The Lady Panthers’ 4x100 relay team of Zy’Kira Anderson, Isabella Melendez, Mylan Tanner and Maritza Troche was eighth at 50.16 seconds.

Anderson also took seventh in the triple jump at 34-7.5 and eighth in the long jump at 16-7.

Sandy Creek won the boys and girls team titles, edging out Oconee County 86-68 for the boys crown and piling up a whopping 104 points, 55.5 in front of second-place Wesleyan, in taking the girls championship.
