Lady Tiger Karson Rogers pitched a no-hitter Tuesday at home against Islands High School. The girls also shutdown any scoring attempts by the Lady Sharks, winning 8-0 in five innings.

The BI girls improved to 5-4 in Region 3-AAAAA and are 8-9 overall with just three games left in the regular season.

The home team had an opportunity to score in the first inning when Kelissa Hargrove got on first base. Kayla DeJesus was hit by a pitch to get on base and Kaitlyn Smith hit one just behind the short stop. But a fielded infield fly and two strikeouts left the bases loaded at the end of the inning.

Rogers struck out two batters and Barbara Rego caught an infield fly to give the home team its second at bat in the bottom of the second.

Rogers hit a double to left field and Suede Jones hit one out to center field for a double, scoring Rogers. Jones scored off a hit to first base by Hargrove and the home team went up 2-0 going into the top of the third.

Once again, Rogers and the Lady Tigers defense retired the three Lady Shark batters, and in the bottom of the third inning, Rego nailed a triple to right field and scored a run on a wild pitch at the plate. Danielle Durham walked to first and stole all the bases to score the Lady Tigers’ fourth run.

In the bottom of the fourth, Jones got on base again and Hargrove hit a double to bring Jones home. Hargrove stole third base and Rego scored her in with a hit to the centerfield fence. Durham made a hit and was safe at first due to an error, which allowed Rego to score. The Lady Tigers were up 7-0.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Lady Tigers faced two outs, but Jones hit a low line drive for a double and stole third. Hargrove also hit a low line drive down the third base line, scoring Jones for the 8-0 victory.

After the varsity game, the BI junior varsity squad won 8-7.

The girls were set to play Groves on Thursday afternoon. Groves was holding the third-place spot in the region, according to ga.prepcountry.com. A win against the Lady Rebels could put the BI girls in third place.

Tomorrow, the team hosts Johnson for a double-header and the girls’ senior day game. The first game is at 11 a.m. and the senior day ceremony will follow.
