After back-to-back region wins with the 2-AA Region playoffs coming into sight, the Long County ladies lost a disappointing game Friday to Jeff Davis County.
Traveling into the unfriendly hive of the Yellow Jackets, the Blue Tide lost 43-60, an in the loss fell 2-1/2 games behind the Jackets in the race for the fourth place finish, qualifying them for the region playoffs.
In Friday's game, the Jeff Davis defense, played stellar ball and kept all the Tide players from scoring in double digits, but in spite of the solid defense the Tide did have two players get close to the mark, as Caela LaRochester put up 9 and Brenda Collins added 8.
Other players noted were Brittany Mills who had 6 and Shanetra Quarterman with 4.
With just three weeks left in the season, the top three spots in the region are just about sewn up. But the Long County ladies along with Jeff Davis and Appling County are a race to make the cut, and finish in fourth place.
Right now Jeff Davis County (12-5) is at 5-3 in the region, Appling County (8-8) is at 3-5, and the ladies from Ludowici (5-10) are at 3-6.
The Long team hoped to regroup for a game last night, but it won't be easy, as they took on the team on top of the 2-AA Region, Savannah Christian Academy.
The Red Raiderettes currently have an overall record of 10-6 and a region record of 7-1.  The team also comes into the game with the number one team in the region in points allowed, as they are only allowing an average of 40 points per contest.
