Douglas named region's top offensive player; Panthers place five on first team

Long County's Ahmari Douglas was named the Region 3-AAA offensive player of the year.

Long County’s Ahmari Douglas was named the Region 3-AAA offensive player of the year, in voting by region coaches.

The Liberty County Panthers placed five players on the all-region first team, with two players on the first team offense, two on defense and another as athlete.

Juniors quarterback Carlos Singleton and Ron Golden were Liberty’s first-team offense picks, seniors defensive tackle Demarai Booker and defensive back Jamar Joseph were chosen to the first-team defense and senior James Summersett was named first-team athlete.

Long County placed sophomore offensive lineman Ho’o Naki on the first-team offense, while sophomore linebacker Kenny Pickens and junior defensive back Keshawn Smith were named to the first-team defense.

Liberty County senior offensive lineman Jasiah Bradwell was named to the second team, and senior defensive tackle Jahzir Williams and senior defensive back Kyan Parker earned second-team honors.

Long County placed junior offensive lineman Jacob Hewitt, senior defensive lineman Noah Range, junior linebacker Steven Wyatt, and sophomore defensive back Chris Hatfield on the second team.

Honorable mentions went to Liberty County senior running back Paul Brown, offensive lineman Keith Burno, defensive lineman Dewayne Allen, linebacker De’Ontae Grant, and kicker Trey Aiello. Long County placed running backs Christian Glenn and Joe Saddler, tight end EJ Portela, defensive lineman JayQuan Johnson, and defensive back Alex Cason on the honorable mention list.

Calvary Day junior quarterback Jake Merklinger was named region player of the year, and Calvary Day’s Mark Stroud was honored as the coach of the year. Savannah Christian sophomore defensive end Elijah Griffin was named the region defensive player of the year, and Savannah Christian junior David Bucey was named region athlete of the year.
