SAVANNAH- With the Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf returning to its historic roots and becoming a team event again for the first time since 2001 which will count as an official win and official money, Champions Tour players are announcing their teams for the Legends Division (ages 50-59) as the April 21-27 event at the Westin Savannah Harbor Golf Resort & Spa in Savannah, GA, approaches.
Dana Quigley and Alan Doyle have thrown their names in the hat as a team. Doyle is a two-time winner of the U.S. Senior Open. The 59-year-old was named the 2001 Champions Tour Player of the Year and also won the Charles Schwab Cup that season. In his career, Doyle is an 11-time winner on the Champions Tour.
His teammate for the event is also an 11-time winner on Champions Tour and was also named the Champions Tour Player of the Year in 2005. Quigley set the Champions Tour record for consecutive tournaments played for which he was eligible with 278 and also played 264 straight. Both Doyle and Quigley are New England natives.
Loren Roberts and Scott Simpson will also be teamed together in April. Roberts, an eight-time winner on the PGA TOUR and a seven-time winner on the Champions Tour, has won three major titles on the Champions Tour, including the 2006 Senior British Open. He is also the reigning Charles Schwab Cup champion. Roberts has played on two Presidents Cup teams and one Ryder Cup team for the United States.
Simpson has won seven PGA TOUR titles, including the 1987 U.S. Open where he defeated Seve Ballesteros and Tom Watson by one stroke at The Olympic Club. Simpson, who won the Champions Tour's Wal-Mart First Open at Pebble Beach in 2006, was also a member of the U.S. Ryder Cup member in 1987.
Des Smyth will be teaming up with Denis Watson.  Watson was chosen as the 2007 Champions Tour Rookie of the Year with two victories, including the Senior PGA Championship at Kiawah Island. Watson won three times during his PGA TOUR career.
Smyth, who won the Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf in 2005, played 29 years on the European Tour and won eight tournaments during that time. He is a two-time winner on the Champions Tour and served as assistant captain to Ian Woosnam for the victorious 2005 European Ryder Cup team.
Played as an individual stroke-play event over the past six years, the new two-man, better-ball format will bring back the excitement that began in 1978.  The Legends Division will remain an Official Money/Official Win competition.
