While the Lady Panthers wait to see whether they play Richmond Hill or Harlem in their post-season region tournament, one Lady Panther standout added another achievement to her mile long list of accomplishments.
Senior point guard Metra Walthour, who has already signed with Georgia Tech, was selected to the South's roster for the 2008 Senior North-South All-Star game scheduled for March 30 at Savannah State University.
"It feels good that I was chosen as a senior player representing the South," Walthour said.
Her friend and AAU traveling basketball teammate Monette Bennett, who currently plays for Statesboro High, was also chosen to represent the South and will accompany Walthour to the game. Bennett also signed to play with the Yellow Jackets next year.
"We were talking about it," Walthour said. "We plan to go out there and have some fun, but we plan to show them a little Yellow Jacket basketball coming their way," she joked.
Walthour's impressive record includes being named Hinesville Official Association Player of the Year for 2006, 2007, All Region Team (2005, 2006, 2007), Brewton-Parker Christmas Tournament MVP (2006), Greater Savannah Area All-Tournament Team (2005, 2006), WTOC Player of the Week (2005, 2006, 2007), Liberty County High School MVP (2005, 2006, 2007).
Walthour, along with Lady Panther teammate LaQuananisha Adams, were also recently nominated for the 2008 McDonald's All-American Team.
The decision on that roster is expected late February.
Lady Panther head coach Carolyn Kelly said the one unfortunate thing was that Adams may have been able to join them on the South's roster but the voting was conducted right after Adam's knee injury, when her condition and her return were still questionable.
That would have given the South's roster three future Yellow Jackets. Adams is back in uniform and will play in the post season for the Lady Panthers.
Another strong addition to the South's roster is point guard and top scorer Jasmine Judge from Hephzibah.
