Lady Panthers drop region match at Pierce

Posting five runs in the first inning gave the Pierce County’s softball team a lead it never relinquished in a 16-2 win over Liberty County in a region game Thursday.

Lady Panther Meleina Davis took the loss, pitching 2 innings, giving up 12 hits for 11 runs. Lady Panther Madison Winn pitched relief, giving up seven hits for five runs.

Lady Panther Tia Anderson went 2 for 2 with an RBI. Marissa Davis was 1 for 2 with an RBI. De’Ana Gumataotao and Kiara Edwards scored in the second and fourth innings.
The Lady Bears’ opening five runs came on two doubles, an RBI single by Tristan DeLoach and a two-run triple by Tiffany Turner.

Lady Bear Ellington Day ruled at bat going 3 for 4 with 5 RBIs.
The Bears added six runs in the third and four in the fourth to shorten the game.

Liberty is 5-6 overall and 0-2 in region 2-AAA.

According to Maxpreps.com, Liberty and Long County are tied at fourth in the region. The Lady Panthers were to play Tuesday afternoon, hosting the Warriors of Tattnall County High. The final score and stats were not available by press time.
