The Liberty County U10 All-Star soccer team captured the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association State Championship on Dec. 3.
The team began play at the GRPA District 2 tournament in Wayne County on Nov. 14-16 and swept through the competition, defeating Wayne County (7-0) and Camden County (7-2) to capture the District Championship.
At the GRPA State Tournament in Thomasville on Dec. 2-3, the team continued its winning ways, defeating Sumter County (6-1) and Troup County (2-0) to advance to the championship. Liberty knocked off host Thomasville 5-2 to win the state title.
The U12 team also advanced to State in Thomasville by winning the GRPA District 2 Tournament. At district the team defeated Glynn County (11-0), Long County (10-0) and Camden County (4-1).
Columbia County was the District 1 Champ and Liberty’s first round opponent at State. The teams battled to a 3-3 tie at the end, and Liberty lost in the ensuing shoot-out.
Other LCRD all-star teams included the U14 and U16 teams. Both lost in the first round of district.
