The Hinesville Barracudas are putting all the wins and losses from this season behind them.
After achieving an overall 22-7 record, the Barracudas earned a berth to the United States Specialty Sports Association Class 14U AA World Series, which started Thursday in Kingsport, Tenn.
Coach Chris Bell and the players’ parents spent the past two weeks gathering donations to make the trip to Domtar Field possible. But as of Thursday morning it was back to the business of baseball.
Thursday and Friday started with pool-play games. On Thursday, the Barracudas were scheduled to face The Springfield Heat from Ohio at 3:45 p.m. Later that evening, the boys were scheduled to face the D3 Stingers of Tennessee.
At 11:15 a.m. today, the team finishes pool play by going against the Virginia Prospect Stars’ Blue Team.
Bracket play begins Saturday and will include 19 teams in a double-elimination tournament.
The Barracudas have an in-class record of 19-4. The boys once held the No. 1 spot in the nation for the USSSA power-rating system.
Although other teams have claimed the top spot since, the Barracudas are still No. 10 on the USSSA list and No. 8 in Georgia in the coaches poll.
Results from the tournament will be posted at www.usssa.com.
