Former Liberty County High School football players and brothers Trier, Aaron and Jovan Bennett are helping the Tuskegee University Golden Tigers make history this weekend.
The Bennett brothers are the only three brothers on the same team at the same time in college football in America, and for the first time in the Tigers’ history, the team will play in the NCAA tournament. Tuskegee will travel to Florence, Ala., to Tom Braly Municipal Stadium to play the North Alabama Lions at 1 p.m. Saturday in the first round of the Division II Football playoffs.
According to the school’s athletic website, Tuskegee intentionally backed out of its agreement to play Alabama State in the annual Turkey Day Classic on Thanksgiving and made the postseason after going 8-2 this season.
According to Martha Bennett, the brothers’ mother, this potentially could be the last game they play together. Trier and Aaron Jr. are seniors, which means next season only Jovan Bennett will be on the team.
Aaron Bennett has 25 total tackles, eight for negative 34 yards, and 6.5 sacks for a loss of 31 yards. Trier Bennett has tallied 20 total tackles, including 4.5 for minus-21 yards, with three sacks for minus-18 yards. Jovan Bennett has four tackles in three games.
Tuskegee coach Willie Slater said the players and coaches are pleased about making history.
