Start New Year off with a splash on New Year’s Day at the 14th annual Tybee Polar Plunge on Tybee Island.
The event starts with the “Gang of Goofs” contest, where everyone is invited to dress up in funny, wacky costumes for a chance to parade in front of a panel of judges and win prizes. Proceeds benefit the restoration of the historic Tybee Post Theater.
The parade kicks off at 11 a.m. and the Polar Plunge is set for noon at the Tybee Island Pier and Pavilion at Tybrisa at Stand Ave.
The fee for taking the plunge is $25 for adults and $15 for children under 12. The entry fee includes a long-sleeve Tybee Polar Plunge T-shirt. Tybee Post Theater members get a 10 percent discount off entry. There is no fee to enter the costume contest.
Register for the plunge and costume contest at www.tybeepolarplunge.com before Dec. 28. Register in person Dec. 28-31 from 1-4 p.m. at the Tybrisa Roundabout on Tybrisa Street or Jan. 1 from 9-11:30 a.m. at the Tybee Island Pier and Pavilion.
