Prep roundup: Tide rallies for win; Lady Panthers fall

The Long County High School football team rallied with a touchdown in the final minute Friday to post a 20-13 win over Bryan County in Ludowici.
The victory raised the Blue Tide’s record to 3-2 overall and 2-2 in Region 2-AA. The program now has its first multiple region-win season since moving to Region 2-AA. On Friday, the Blue Tide scored the winning touchdown when quarterback Jacob Turner connected with DeOnte’ Ellis on a 24-yard scoring pass with 27 seconds left. That capped a run of 13 unanswered Long County points during the last half of the fourth quarter.
Long County recovered a fumble on the game’s final play to clinch the win.
Liberty eliminated from playoffs
The Liberty County High softball team’s season ended Thursday with  two postseason losses  to Burke County in Waynesboro.  In a best-of-three series, the young Panthers lost game one, 8-6, and game two, 17-10. They finished 5-17 overall and 2-4 in 3A-AAAAA.
The Panthers, who consisted largely of freshmen and sophomore players, ended the season with a 5-17 overall record and a 2-4 mark in Region 3A-AAAA.
