Liberty County swept its Region 3-AAAA doubleheader at New Hampstead Friday, winning 17-0 and 19-2.
In Sunday’s Courier, the 19-2 win was reported as game one, but was actually the score of the second game.
In the opener, Aric Albertson was 2 for 4 with a double, triple and 3 RBIs. Colby Rhea was also 2 for 4 with 3 RBIs. Brett Smith and Jacari Roberts each had 2 RBIs each. Parker Neely and Hunter Miller had an RBI each.
Rhea pitched the six-inning win, netting eight strikeouts and allowing only three hits. Neely had eight putouts as the Panther catcher. Miller had five putouts.
In game 2, Roberts took the mound, tossing nine strikeouts. He was also 5 for 5 with 3 RBIs. Jacob Albertson was 2 for 3 with 3 RBIs. Aric Albertson was 3 for 5 with 3 RBIs. Dylan Gamble had 3 RBIs, Neely had 2 and Rhea and Matt Williams had an RBI each.
Jacob Albertson had nine putouts. His brother Aric had three.
The Panthers host Wayne County Thursday in a doubleheader. The first game starts at 4:30 p.m.
Between games, Liberty will honor senior players.
Panther coach Tony Glazer said Liberty will be the fourth seed for the state playoffs, regardless results against the Yellow Jackets.
Going into Thursday’s games, the Panthers are 9-9 overall and 4-4 in the region.
