Liberty County High School soccer player Gabriel Melendez signed his national letter of intent to play for Southern Wesleyan University during a ceremony at the school on April 29.
Panther boys’ soccer coach Charlene M. Collins said the mid-fielder and striker has been on the varsity team all four years of high school.
“He is an excellent player that always tries to get better,” Collins said. “Despite being quiet, he was able to guide the rest of his team with motivation. He would also take advice from his team and consider new tactics and formations to improve the team and not just himself.”
Collins said Melendez always placed the team ahead of his own pursuits.
“Southern Wesleyan is getting a very hardworking, responsible, open-minded and committed player,” Collins said. “Gabriel will be successful on the field and off.”
