Students earn schools, trade group's honors

Simone Meekins
Jessica Jenkinson, daughter of Glen and Maureen Jenkinson of Hinesville, recently received a $1,000 scholarship from the Savannah Area Tourism Leadership Council.
She was one of four area students pursuing careers in the hospitality industry who received scholarships and were honored at the council’s ninth annual Tourism Awards and Scholarship Dinner at the Westin Savannah Harbor Golf Resort and Spa on May 31.
Jenkinson, a 2004 graduate of Liberty County High School, is a senior at Georgia Southern University, studying hotel and restaurant management. She maintains a 3.3 gpa and is working at the Flat Creek Lodge in Swainsboro.

SAVANNAH — Several area residents graduated from Armstrong Atlantic State University during the spring 2007 commencement on May 5. President Thomas Z. ATLANTA — The Society of High School Scholars has announced that Long County High School student Simone Meekins from Ludowici, has been selected for membership. The society recognizes the top scholars in the nation and invites only those students who have achieved superior academic excellence. The announcement was made by NSHSS Founder and Chairman Claes Nobel, a senior member of the Swedish Nobel family.
“On behalf of NSHSS, I am honored to recognize the hard work, sacrifice, and commitment that Simone has demonstrated to achieve this exceptional level of academic excellence,” Nobel said.
Meekins will begin her junior year at Long County High School in the fall.
Formed in 2002, NSHSS recognizes academic excellence at the high school level and encourages members to apply their talents, vision and potential to better themselves and the world. Currently, there are more than 150,000 members.
