Play production did community proud

Editor, Liberty County has outdone itself with the support of my first major live stage production, “Mama Turn the Radio On.” The momentum for the play began to reveal itself when tickets for the red carpet night began to go quickly one week prior to the play. It was evident our community was in tune for “Hollywood come to Hinesville.”
The pride I felt and saw in the “spirit,” dress and enthusiasm of those in attendance on the opening evening is still like a dream. Many posed, lingered and strolled on the red carpet. From then on it was show time!
The public’s enthusiasm for this event was threefold. First the production was written and produced by a local person. Second, those starring in the play were local actors and actresses.  Last, this production was being performed in our local community.
The cast’s superb performance was the icing on the cake. The message they portrayed has touched more lives than we will ever know. Moved by the message, many have pledged to ensure their children and grandchildren attend the next showing.
Since the production I have been told I was “nervy” to attempt a three night event.  In the end, over 800 people attended the event from Aug. 15-17.  This is not a personal accomplishment but a community accomplishment. Yes we can!
First of all I have to thank God for his direction from conception to presentation. I want to thank the cast and the Baconton Baptist Church Adult Choir for a superb performance each evening. In addition I would like to thank the following sponsors:  Hinesville Area Arts Council, A. Washington and Co.,  Jones, Osteen and Jones, James W. Buckley and Associates, Georgia Power, Heritage Bank, Simmons Family Dentistry, Colonial Bridal and Formal Wear, Liberty Regional Medical Center, Victory Trophies, Thrift Auto Repair, Charles Frasier Barber Shop, WGML, Full Gospel Tabernacle Church, TOP Christian Book Store and Joy 100.1.
Andrew Williams, Pastor Antoine Shaw and staff, David Gardner, Ronnie, Gina, Tevin Kelly, Crayshaun Mungin, Anthony Cook and Jamahal Baker were the wind beneath my wings.  Stay tuned for a second showing at Club Stewart in the next few months. The details for other presentations are also in the works.
Our plans are to present “Mama Turn the Radio on Part II” in August 2009. Leo is coming home! See you there!
