Editor, I happened to read the letter to the editor that was published in the paper on Friday, Feb. 8. I would like to let Ms. Thomas know that the Coastal Georgia YMCAs have a program to help those that cannot afford a regular membership.
We have an annual campaign that is very successful in procuring funds to offset membership fees for those who cannot afford the general rates. The program enables those with limited income to enjoy facilities in the same manner that regular members do.
The program is income based, on a sliding scale. A scholarship is granted for a six-month period. Applications are available during business hours at the front desk. Anyone can apply by filling out the application and providing required income information.
I would like to extend an invitation to Ms. Thomas to come in and apply for the program. We have many wonderful activities and programs available. There are also discounts that apply to recipients that register for select programs.
