Maggie Batson has been chosen to be featured in Discovery Girls magazine for 2015.
Maggie, the only girl chosen from Georgia, is the daughter of Dr. John and Rachel Batson. John is an oral and maxillofacial surgeon stationed at Fort Stewart and an Iraq War veteran.
At the magazine’s 2014 Girls Leadership Summit in California, Maggie will be one of 36 girls who will contribute to the magazine, participate in photo shoots and have profiles featured in the publication.
The magazine has a circulation of over 200,000 with a total readership of 1 million.
At the age of 7, she started her own company “Twice Loved by Maggie B.” Maggie and her mother made designer jewelry from recycled materials, marketed the idea to local stores and now the necklaces are sold in boutiques from North Carolina to California. She has been featured on programs ranging from PBS’ “Biz Kidz” to Nickelodeon’s game show “Figure It Out.”
Later this year, she will appear in her first feature film, “Killing Winston Jones,” a dark comedy starring Richard Dreyfuss and Danny Glover. Maggie will play Dreyfuss’ daughter in flashback scenes throughout the movie. In addition to numerous philanthropic projects, including the Humane Society and children’s hospitals, she has a nearly 4.0 grade-point average, plays travel soccer and is the third baseman for her all-star softball team.
Maggie currently lives in Richmond Hill with her family, including younger brothers John and Bobby.
