GORDON — A $100 million wood-pellet plant proposed for a site in central Georgia has gained approval from the Middle Georgia Regional Commission.

Ben Easterlin, senior vice president for operations at Enova Energy Corp., which hopes to build the renewable energy project, said the planning group’s approval is an important step in getting the plant built.

If built, the plant would use wood from a 60- to 70-mile radius of the site to supply power plants in Europe. The plant is being proposed for a site northeast of Macon, near the Wilkinson-Jones county line.

Company officials have told The Telegraph that the plant would bring about 150 construction jobs and 70 direct operating jobs. More work would come from support industries such as timber, gas stations and hauling.
