Fort Stewart services to close for Hurricane Dorian

(FORT STEWART, Ga.) - Fort Stewart-Hunter Army Airfield and the 3rd Infantry Division leadership continue to take precautions in preparing for Hurricane Dorian.

The hurricane will affect our area with winds gusting up to 50 mph, 4-7 inches of rain and 4-7 feet of storm surge, with greater impacts on the coast. Flash flooding may be possible.

All installation services on Fort Stewart are closing at noon Wednesday due to Hurricane Dorian. Hunter Army Airfield residents must be evacuated by noon Wednesday.

The emergency department at Winn Army Community Hospital is open during the post closure. All emergency services will remain operational 24/7. Gates 1 (Main Gate), 4 (2ABCT Entrance), 5 (Back Gate) remain open 24/7, all other access control points will be closed.

If you live in a mandatory evacuation zone, and work at Fort Stewart or Hunter Army Airfield, plan to report once the Senior Commander has lifted the evacuation order.

Key and essential personnel will work as directed by their supervisors or chains of command.

If you work in a facility closed due to Hurricane Dorian, plan to report Friday at normal report time.

All Soldiers need to contact their chain of command for guidance on release procedures.

At this time, the senior commander has signed orders allowing active duty Soldiers and Department of the Army Civilians displaced by mandatory evacuations to receive possible monetary reimbursement.

Do not travel unless necessary. Call 911 if you see downed power lines.

If you have power outages in the barracks or other non-housing buildings, please call 912-767- 2883 at Stewart and 912-315-4003 at Hunter.

We are asking the community to take the time to help clear debris from the streets. Please move debris to a location where it will not flow back into drainage systems.

If you have a power outage in an on-post housing neighborhood and/or need to call in a maintenance emergency, please contact the Balfour Beatty work order hotline, 912-408-2466 at Stewart and 912-459-2147 at Hunter.
