Army Chief of Staff announces officer assignments

The Army Chief of Staff recently announced that Maj. Gen. Antonio Aguto will be moving from Fort Bragg to become commanding general of Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield and the Third Infantry Division, according to a release announcing new officer assignments. Aguto currently serves as Deputy Chief Of Staff of United States Army Forces Command at Fort Bragg, N.C. He began his assignment as deputy chief of staff on May 23, 2018. No date has been given for when Aguto will assume his assignment at Fort Stewart. 

Aguto holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Aerospace Engineering. He is a graduate of the Armor Officer Basic and Advanced Course, Field Artillery Advanced Course, Command and General Staff College and the Naval War College.

Aguto has served as commanding general of the 7th Army Training Command in Grafenwoehr, Germany, and was assigned as the Deputy Commanding General of Operations, 7th Infantry Division, Joint Base Lewis McChord, Washington, from 2015-2016. During that time, he deployed to Kandahar, Afghanistan to serve concurrently as the Commanding General for Combined Joint Task Force-7 (CJTF-7), Train, Advise, Assist Command - South (TAAC-S) as part of Operation FREEDOM’S SENTINEL and NATO Resolute Support.

A number of staff and command jobs fill out Aguto’s resume including two tours with Operation Iraqi Freedom. 

His awards and decorations include: the Legion of Merit (3 Oak Leaf Clusters), Bronze Star Medal (4 Oak Leaf Clusters), the Meritorious Service Medal (3 Oak Leaf Clusters), the Joint Staff Commendation Medal, the Army Commendation Medal (4 Oak Leaf Clusters), the Joint Staff Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal (5 Oak Leaf Clusters), the National Defense Service Medal (2 Awards), NATO Medal, Parachutist Badge, and Army and Joint Staff Badges.
